Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse Manager – Labor and Delivery is responsible for 24/7 leadership, operational oversight, and high-quality patient-centered care within a busy Labor & Delivery department. The role focuses on clinical excellence, staff empowerment, and process improvement, fostering an autonomous and evidence-based nursing practice in alignment with the hospital’s mission, vision, and nursing philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly accountable for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the Labor & Delivery, OB ED, and Antepartum units (21 beds, approx. 2600 deliveries/year, 57.0 FTEs).
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented culture by empowering staff and encouraging shared ownership of patient care outcomes.
  • Implement evidence-based care practices and ensure adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Lead departmental initiatives focused on patient safety, quality improvement, and service excellence.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development of clinical nursing staff.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with physicians, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and drive departmental success.
  • Maintain budgetary accountability and manage resources responsibly.
  • Participate in hospital-wide leadership committees, performance improvement projects, and community health initiatives.
  • Support Magnet or Pathways to Excellence standards and contribute to maintaining these designations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree (MSN or related field) preferred.
  • Active Texas RN license or compact license.
  • Minimum 2 years recent acute care L&D RN leadership experience required.
  • High-risk and complex L&D clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience working in Magnet or Pathways designated facilities required.
  • National Specialty Certification or commitment to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy, foster team collaboration, and build professional growth among staff.

  • Positive leadership style focused on empowering and developing staff.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-awareness and the ability to listen and adapt.
  • Experience managing budgets and quality performance indicators.

  • Clinical Nurse Coordinators (days & nights), Relief Charge RNs, Maternal Program Coordinator, and Educator.
