Registered Nurse- Mental Health Service Older Persons,

Location: Kenepuru Hospital

Service : Mental Health Service Older Persons, Te Whare Ra Uta,

Contract: Permanent, Part-Time Position 32 hours per week (0.8 FTE), and Fixed term, Part Time 37.3 hrs per week (0.93 FTE) Rostered & Rotating Shifts.

Salary: $81,683 - $106,739

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our multidisciplinary inpatient team. You will be joining an established team dedicated to improving health outcomes for our tangata whaiora and whānau.

Responsibilities and duties of this role include:

  • Undertaking comprehensive nursing assessment of tangata whaiora needs.
  • Development and evaluation of nursing plan, care and treatment interventions in partnership with tangata whaiora, whānau and other disciplines.
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary review process and the discharge pathway for tangata whaiora.
  • Delegation, direction and evaluation of interventions by other colleagues.
  • Promoting and supporting participation and engagement in therapeutic, occupational and social activities to enhance well-being.
  • Contributing to service development, quality improvement and health and safety initiatives in the workplace.
  • Ensuring continuity of care and best practice standards are applied.

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

Mental Health Service Older Persons (MHSOP) provides specialist assessment, treatment and recovery focused interventions. We are primarily a community based service incorporating a 16 bed inpatient facility.

Our inpatient unit provides specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals with a wide range of mental health challenges. MHSOP primarily serves individuals presenting with recent onset functional mental health conditions over the age of 65 and/or dementia associated with significant behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD).

Moū - About you

You will be flexible and willing to work collaboratively as part of a team to provide quality care and assessment to meet identified client needs. You will be willing and able to work rostered and rotating shifts. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:-

  • Clinical experience of working with older adults with mental health needs or general mental health experience and an interest developing skills, experience in this specialty.
  • Completed postgraduate mental health study or be willing/eligible to undertake further postgraduate study.
  • Demonstrate ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals.
  • Be solution focused with excellent time management skills and the ability to effectively and efficiently complete duties and responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to engage people at all levels.
  • A commitment to applying principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and to improving equitable health outcomes of the community our team serves.
