Reinsurance Financial Team Lead

Zurich North America is currently seeking a Reinsurance Team Lead for the Multinational Ceded Reinsurance Team for Group Reinsurance. This position is based at our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. Local candidates will follow a hybrid work schedule, with in-office days coordinated with your manager to support collaboration, business needs, and your personal flexibility.

This position is responsible for handling complex reinsurance transactions, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions of the reinsurance agreements, proper accounting methodology, and departmental standard operating procedures. Responsible for teamwork flow governance, financial and performance analysis, complex issue resolution, and technical training.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and apply proper accounting and operational procedures for complex reinsurance contracts and transactions.
  • Oversee or perform calculations, recording, reporting, and settlement of complex reinsurance transactions, including claims of medium to high complexity.
  • Strengthen communication and workflow efficiency by networking with internal and external business partners.
  • Guide the team on complex claim cessions, contractual interpretation, ceded premium processing, reconciliation, settlement, and clearing.
  • Lead process development and improvement initiatives, focusing on automation, analytics, and reporting to enhance technical and operational capabilities.
  • Develop, prepare, analyze, and review complex reinsurance reports, financial statements, and key performance indicators.
  • Support and actively participate in departmental and team projects.
  • Respond to internal and external audit inquiries and support reinsurance audits.
  • Model behaviors that demonstrate commitment to Zurich’s corporate values.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide technical advice and input into performance management for team members.
  • Take action to manage your own personal development and encourage others to do the same.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and 6 or more years of experience in the Reinsurance area within the Insurance industry
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Reinsurance area within the Insurance industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and reinsurance contracts.
  • Expertise in reinsurance claims recoverable processes and its link to direct claim processing.
  • Advanced accounting experience including general ledger, financial reporting, data retrieval and analysis, reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Comfortable in team settings, leading discussion, making decisions, and offering insight and ideas.
  • Ability to interact with the business unit and customers, utilizing strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills to timely deliver on competing priorities.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, Alteryx, business objects, query tools
  • CPA and or CPCU designation

We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education.

The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $94,100.00 - $154,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
