About the Project
The Australian Museum Shop provides visitors with a unique retail experience that complements the Museum’s exhibitions, collections and programs. Offering a diverse range of products, the shop plays an important role in enhancing the visitor experience while supporting the Museum’s broader commercial activities.
The Retail team works in a dynamic, customer-focused environment, delivering high-quality service across the Museum shop and online store while maintaining engaging, well-presented retail spaces.

About the Role
The Retail Supervisor (part-time) supports the effective day-to-day operation of the Australian Museum Shop, providing professional and knowledgeable customer service and practical operational support.

Working under the guidance of the Retail Management team, you will undertake a range of retail activities including sales and transactions, cash handling, stock monitoring and replenishment, visual merchandising and online order fulfilment. You will help maintain a welcoming, organised and well-presented retail environment while responding to customer enquiries and contributing to the achievement of daily sales targets.

You will work collaboratively with retail colleagues across rotating shifts and provide operational and administrative support to help ensure consistent and efficient retail operations.

Employment Status:
  • Clerk Grade 1/2
  • Fixed Term, until June 2027
  • Part-time, 24.5 hours per week
You will be paid a competitive pro-rated total remuneration package of $61,971 - $67,373, including an annual salary of $54,600 - $59,359 pro-rated plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.

About you
You are a customer-focused retail professional who enjoys working in a busy and engaging environment. You bring experience in day-to-day retail operations and are confident providing friendly, knowledgeable and responsive service to a diverse range of customers.

You are organised, reliable and comfortable balancing customer needs with stock, merchandising and operational tasks. You communicate effectively, work collaboratively as part of a team and take pride in maintaining accurate processes and high presentation standards.

Experience in a senior retail or supervisory capacity within a high-quality retail environment will be well regarded. Experience in visual merchandising and strong product knowledge, or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of a diverse product range, will also be advantageous.
To be eligible for this role at the Australian Museum, you must hold full working rights in Australia and meet all essential requirements listed in the position description.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in a senior retail or supervisory capacity within a high-quality retail environment is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality customer service in a retail, visitor-facing or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in day-to-day retail operations, including point-of-sale systems, cash handling, stock handling and maintaining accurate transaction records.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team in a busy customer-focused environment.
  • Sound knowledge of retail procedures and practices, with the ability to follow established policies and processes and manage competing operational priorities.
  • Experience in visual merchandising, including maintaining attractive, organised and customer-focused retail displays.
  • Demonstrated product knowledge, or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of a diverse product range to provide accurate and informed customer service.
Essential Requirements
  • Full availability across all retail hours, including weekdays, weekends, and late nights.
