    The purpose of the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) is to promote and protect health and disability services consumers' rights and to facilitate the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to infringement of those rights.

The Senior Communications Advisor will be a communications champion for HDC providing trusted advice and delivering high quality work to support HDC to achieve its communications objectives.
The person in this role will be a part of the strategy team and assist the organisation to raise the profile and understanding of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights

A great communicator with strong relationship management skills. The ability to work autonomously with a high degree of initiative and self-confidence are also required. In addition, you must have:

  • At least five years' experience in a senior strategic communication role.
  • Experience developing resources for diverse audiences.
  • Extensive experience of working with media and reputation management.
  • Experience in advising senior leaders
  • APR accreditation preferred but not essential.
  • Experience creating and delivering strategic communications and engagement plans.
  • A good team player with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write in plain English and other languages an advantage.
  • A high level of competence in MS Office suite.
  • Good awareness of and understanding of the Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of te reo Maori, an advantage.
  • Experience working with Adobe design software helpful, but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and demonstrate thought leadership.
  • Knowledge of the health and disability sectors is an advantage.
  • Experience with design software or the Adobe suite (preferred) is an advantage.
  • A tertiary qualification in a related sector.

Awhe utu - Salary range

As part of our remuneration framework, the base salary range for this position is from $80,930 to $101,163, depending on the candidate's experience. Please note that KiwiSaver/employer contributions are in addition to the base salary.
