A chance of possible shifts during the day but not mandatory.

Duties:
Staff Justices are required to preside in court and perform administrative judicial functions with limited judicial decision making and discretion. Judicial appointment comes under the authority of The Provincial Court Act and is made by Order-in-Council on the recommendation of Cabinet. Upon appointment, all justices must successfully complete judicial training as determined by the Chief Judge. Powers and duties of a staff justice of the peace are mandated by The Justices of the Peace Regulation under The Provincial Court Act and their designations are authorized by the Director of Justice of the Peace Services.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Experience performing data entry as well as preparing, administering and processing complex documentation in accordance with legislation or procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills including the ability to handle multiple tasks in pressure situations with strict deadlines.
- Excellent verbal communication skills including ability to communicate complex principles in plain language.
- Strong interpersonal skills experience working effectively within a team environment.
- Effective analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to make sound independent decisions.
- Supervisory and leadership experience.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and pay attention to detail.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Experience with related court system applications including: Criminal Court Automated Information Network (CCAIN), Timeline Management System (TLMS) and Corrections Offender Management System (COMS).
- Experience interpreting Federal/Provincial legislation including the Criminal Code.
- Experience dealing effectively with the public, judiciary, legal profession, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Satisfactory Enhanced Security Check.
- Must qualify for an appointment as a Staff Justice of the Peace pursuant to statutory requirements, including must be 18 years of age or older and you must be a resident of Manitoba.
- Ability to work overtime when required with little notice.
