Story Producers

The opportunity - Te tūranga

A key part of the editorial process, the Story Producer oversees the production of video news content for 1News shaping and sub-editing the journalism we produce each day. This role drives editorial excellence in the newsroom, producing compelling coverage while ensuring 1News reporting is fair, accurate and balanced.

In this role your focus will be on

• Identify and develop fresh story ideas for 1News
• Assist with the writing and structuring of stories, or take full responsibility for doing so, if required.
• Champion creative treatments and look for alternative ways to report stories where we can, and resources allow.
• Provide guidance on original and compelling ways to progress a daily story drawing on diverse sources.
• Deliver quality, well-produced stories on time, to duration and be mindful of available resourcing.
• Communicate story requirements to reporter and crews and co-ordinate their activities.
• Maintain a flow of information about story development and legal or ethical issues to the newsroom.

We are looking at hiring two story producers.

What we're looking for - Tā mātou e kimi nei

To excel in this position, we seek candidates with the following qualifications:

• A qualification and recent journalism experience, video news production experience is a plus.
• A strong understanding media law and editorial standards
• Organised and knowledgeable about what resources are required to produce a story across both broadcast and digital platforms.
• Strong relationship-building skills and confidence to make editorial decisions.
• Calm under pressure.
