5Blue Process Equipment Inc. is an engineering and fabrication company that provides custom process equipment to the oil and gas industry in Canada and internationally.
We are seeking an experienced, detail oriented Structural Detailer to join our drafting team and support the production of structural skids, frames, platforms, and related components for fabrication projects.
This is a hands-on technical role combining 3D structural modeling, detail drawing production, quality review, standards development, and team collaboration. The successful candidate will work primarily with AutoCAD and CADWorx Structure software to create fabrication ready drawings for natural gas processing and packaged equipment projects.
As a key member of the drafting team, this person will provide technical support to engineers, project managers, and shop personnel while helping to develop and maintain company drafting standards. The role may expand into other areas of design and drafting based on the individual's aptitude, experience, and career interests.
Responsibilities and Duties
Structural Modeling and Detailing
· Develop 3D structural models using CADWorx Structural Professional.
· Create detailed drawings using AutoCAD and CADWorx Plant Professional for base skids, structural frames, ladders, platforms, staircases, and related components.
· Convert engineering markups and technical information into complete, consistent, and fabrication ready drawings.
· Ensure all work is performed accurately and in accordance with company standards, project specifications, and fabrication requirements.
· Complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules, company procedures, and applicable standards.
Drawing Quality and Standards
· Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, constructability, and compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
· Confirm designs are safe, mechanically sound, accessible, functional, and practical for fabrication.
· Help develop and maintain company drafting standards, procedures, and supporting documentation.
· Contribute to the ongoing improvement of drafting systems, workflows, and quality control processes.
Team Collaboration and Technical Support
· Provide technical support and guidance to the drafting team, engineers, project managers, and shop personnel.
· Work collaboratively with project stakeholders to resolve discrepancies, improve drawing quality, and support successful project execution.
· Check structural drawings produced by other team members as required.
· Contribute to a collaborative, professional, and supportive team environment.
Future Development Opportunities
· Support the preparation of other drawing types, including P&IDs, equipment drawings, and piping related drawings, as workload requires.
· Expand into other drafting and design disciplines based on workload, experience, aptitude, and career interests.
· Contribute to the continued improvement of company design systems, standards, and processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
· Approximately one or more years of relevant structural drafting or detailing experience.
· Experience drafting natural gas oilfield structures or comparable process equipment for fabrication environments.
· Proficiency in AutoCAD and CADWorx software platforms, specifically Structure.
· Ability to interpret engineering markups and convert them into accurate, complete, and fabrication ready drawings.
· Working knowledge of structural design principles, fabrication processes, and applicable codes and standards.
· Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive environment.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
Preferred
· Diploma in Engineering Design Technology (EDDT) from NAIT or SAIT, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
· Knowledge of natural gas process systems and related equipment.
· Experience supporting fabrication shops or packaged equipment projects.
