YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:


Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, you will be part of the Engineering Department. You will primarly provide expert guidance on ground control and rock mechanics for underground operations, ensuring geotechnical considerations are fully integrated into mine design and planning. You will lead the Ground Control team within the Engineering Department, ensuring departmental objectives are aligned and fully integrated to maximize operational productivity and enhance overall profitability. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Define ground support requirements for all underground excavations;
  • Manage the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and review design standards;
  • Review the mine design, mining sequence and annual LOM to ensure operational feasibility, and compliance with geotechnical and corporate standards;
  • Supervise technical studies on all aspects of rock mechanics, including numerical modeling, stability analysis and geotechnical risk assessments, to ensure quality and alignment with project objectives;
  • Develop and implement Ground control readiness plans covering procedures, instrumentation, monitoring, QA/QC, risk management and training;
  • Collaborate with Agnico Eagle specialists from Technical Services, Project Development and other mine sites to share expertise and align on best practices;
  • Serve as a key technical stakeholder for deposit studies and long‑term projects;
  • Lead and supervise the Ground Control team and guide Technical Services personnel in developing awareness of ground control requirements.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering (or a closely related discipline);
  • A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Rock Mechanics is considered an asset;
  • 10+ years of experience in Ground Control / Rock Mechanics;
  • Experience with permafrost environments (corrosion monitoring/management) and hydrogeology related to underground water inflows;
  • Proven track record in project start-up and operational readiness;
  • Member of a Canadian engineering association and eligible for NAPEG membership;
  • Strong working knowledge of Deswik;
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly Excel, Word & PowerPoint.

Your Work Schedule

  • Hybrid Schedule: 7/7, 5/2, 5/2 (7 days of work at our Hope Bay Project, followed by 7 days of rest, 5 days of work followed by 2 days of rest, 5 days of work followed by 2 days of rest).
  • During the 5/2 schedule, you will work from home or one of the Agnico Eagle offices.
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
