Mō tēnei mahi (About this job)

We are seeking a dedicated Transition Coach – Youth Services tojoin us on a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) basis based inHamilton

As a Transition Coach, you will work in partnership with Oranga Tamariki (OT) and other agencies to provide holistic and culturally responsive support to eligible rangatahi aged 15 years – 21 years. This role requires you to work within the standards of Oranga Tamariki and the values -driver service delivery of Te Wānanga Io Aotearoa.

Some of the responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Respond to referrals of rangatahi to the service, by Oranga Tamariki Social Workers.
  • Support rangatahi to actively participate in assessment and planning processes.
  • Respond to referrals of rangatahi to the service by Oranga Tamariki (OT) social workers.
  • Support rangatahi to actively participate in assessment and planning processes.
  • Support rangatahi to access and engage with appropriate services and development opportunities to help them overcome barriers to reaching adult independence.
  • Assist rangatahi to build, strengthen and maintain connections with whanau, hapū iwi and a broader network of supportive adults.
  • Provide practical, emotional, mentor support and skill development to rangatahi as per transition plans.
  • Meet the reporting requirements of Oranga Tamariki and TWoA.


Mōu (About you)

We are looking for a compassionate, culturally competent, and motivated individual who has a genuine passion for supporting rangatahi to achieve their goals and aspirations.

You will also bring with you:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Youth Work.
  • Current professional body registration (SWRB NZ).
  • 4+ years’ experience in social work, youth services or a similar type of role.
  • 4+ years’ experience working with Māori or Pasifika.
  • Proven experience providing transitional and social services to rangatahi.
  • A full NZ Drivers Licence This position is classed as a Core Worker and will need to pass a safety check, inclusive of a Police Vetting under the Children’s Act 2014 and a Cyrus Check (OT).

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
