Job Title: Volunteer Services Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Affiliate Operations
Status: Part Time, 24 hours per week
Location: 285 Nash Road North, Hamilton, ON, Stone Church ReStore 1525 Stone Church Road East, Hamilton, ON and various build sites across our territory.

Join Habitat for Humanity Hamilton as the Volunteer Services Coordinator. The Volunteer Services Coordinator plays a key role in supporting and growing Habitat Hamilton’s volunteer program. This entry-level role is ideal for a people-focused, organized, and community-minded individual who understands that volunteers are essential to our mission’s success.
Organization Summary:
Founded in 1991, Habitat Hamilton is an independent, not-for-profit charity that builds affordable housing and promotes homeownership. We mobilize local volunteers, community members and corporate partners, seeking to create a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
Habitat Hamilton strengthens its mission with the support of the ReStore, a social enterprise and home improvement warehouse that offers new and used affordable merchandise to the general public. Revenues generated by the Hamilton ReStore fund all administrative and operational costs at Habitat Hamilton. This means that 100% of donated funds to Habitat Hamilton directly support its build program.

Job Purpose:
We’re looking for a dynamic Volunteer Program Lead who will take charge of planning and delivering impactful volunteer programs from start to finish — from recruitment and onboarding to recognition and retention. You’ll champion volunteer safety, maintain accurate records and reports, and use feedback to continuously improve our programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Actively lead the planning and execution of volunteer programing including recruitment and acquisition; onboarding and training; recognition and retention
- Ensure volunteers health and safety in partnership with build and ReStore staff
- Maintain existing databases to manage and prepare monthly activity reports and share results
- Actively work with volunteers to gather feedback and drive improvement initiatives
- Provide input on policies, procedures and training resources
- Liaise with other departments, affiliates and local volunteer management organizations to meet strategic goals
- Proactively seek out best practices and continuously improve the volunteer programs
- Communicate to volunteers and other stakeholders through email, newsletters, by telephone to achieve program goals
- In partnership with other departments, provide content for social media, website, grants, and steward donors and support the delivery of Corporate Build Days
- Provide onsite volunteer support, including registration, hospitality and public speaking as required at various sites including build sites, ReStore and special event locations
- Provide volunteer management training to other departments
- Participate in the local advocacy efforts related to volunteering and affordable housing
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Experience working or post-secondary education in the social service or volunteer field
- Previous volunteer experience and/or experience as a volunteer coordinator is an asset
- Strong people skills; interpersonal skills, active listening, compassion and understanding for lived experience (folks in vulnerable states/situations)
- Self-motivated, outgoing individual with a positive outlook and passion for generating a social impact in the Hamilton community
- Strong understanding of Habitat Hamilton’s mission, vision, values and Development Model
- Demonstrated organizational, verbal and written communication, time management and problem-solving skills
- Solid computer skills including MS Teams, Office 365, Outlook, and working with databases such as Better Impact
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment, taking a proactive stance in project success and completion
- Ability to be flexible and responsive to emerging needs of the organization
- The ability to maintain a positive outlook and have fun while contributing to the goals of the organization
- Physically able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, walk up stairs, and safely navigate active build sites
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to deliver clean police check
- Valid driver’s licence and the use of a reliable vehicle is mandatory
- First Aid Certification
