We are currently seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator who will hit the ground running, who has a safety-first attitude, and who has or is willing to work towards a Water Treatment Certificate qualification (or equivalent).


Our water treatment team is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the districts drinking water systems.

Our work includes:

  • Assisting in the daily maintenance and operation of Reservoirs, Treatments Plants, Booster Pump Stations.
  • River Intakes, Bores, Dams and Water catchments
  • Monitor plant performance and maintenance requirements.
  • Ensuring all project requirements, technical, regulatory and safety standards are complied with.
  • Operating within a quality management system and participating in the implantation of stated procedures including responding to quality transgressions.
  • Maintaining effective communication with the wider water team.
  • Fostering and maintaining positive relationships with staff, contractors, stakeholders and the public / property owners
  • Be available for after-hours call outs & emergency events (on a roster).

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you

This role would suit someone that has a good understanding of water treatment plant operating systems or has a background in general water engineering, while holding a clean Class 1 drivers licence.


Ideally you will have a ‘National Certificate in Drinking Water Treatment (preferred but not essential). Or you will have the aptitude and desire to work towards such a qualification in the future. You will be a team player, self-motivated, and performance driven.


Our ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience within the water industry, or related industry with transferable skills.
  • The ability to work with and give direction to contractors.
  • Mechanical engineering & maintenance skills/experience.
  • The ability to be on a 24hr call-out roster.
  • A demonstrated Health & Safety focus, ensuring own and others' safety at all times.
  • Commitment towards high standards of customer service.
