Animal Care Assistant Manager
Organization Summary
Shy Wolf Sanctuary is a home to captive-bred wolves and other exotic animals. Animals come to us from shelters, private surrenders, and seizure by authorities due to negligence, abandonment, or abuse. Our mission is to heal hearts and minds through rescue, sanctuary, and education.
Position Purpose
The Animal Care Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting with all aspects of animal care, on-site and off-site, to ensure the health and safety of the animals. The person filling this position will need to be well-rounded, flexible, enthusiastic, situationally aware, and proactive.
Reports to: Animal Care Manager and Operations Director
Job Functions:
- Performs veterinary diagnostics and works with ACM to prepare treatment plans
- Assists with maintaining medical records, and ensure routine medical care is scheduled
- Works cooperatively with the ACM, staff, and Founders to ensure operations run smoothly
- Collaborates with ACM and staff to schedule travel needs for the animals to receive necessary care
- Assists with maintaining drug inventory, and ordering supplies relating to animal care as necessary
- Participates with administrative staff in reviewing policies and procedures relating to animal care and adjusting these policies to better suit our animals as needed
- Enter and maintain all procedure records accurately in files
- Enforces SWS policies and procedures
- Assists in quarantine care, and handling animals
- On call for medical emergencies, and to assist in case of inclement weather or natural disasters
- Provides emergency medical care for injured animals
- Assists with restraining animals during examinations
- Administers medication and sedatives as needed
- Assists with blood draws
- Assists with grooming, and all animal husbandry tasks
- Feeds animals and cleans enclosures
- Other Tasks as assigned
- Arranges all necessary veterinary care and appointments, routine and emergent, and either attends the visit or ensures capable staff and/or volunteers are present that are familiar with that animal
Qualifications:
- 2 years in wildlife care preferred
- Must pass drug test, as there will be access to SWS vehicles for animal transport
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of laws regulating animal acquisition and exhibition
- Knowledge of various medications and veterinary care
- Must be able to take direction, both verbally and written
- Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs
- Must have availability to be on-call in case of emergencies

Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
