Glen Innes Hospital is located in the New England Northwest, Rural and Regional Health Service within the Glen Innes Severn Shire Government Area. The hospital services over 8936 people with 6.0 % of the population identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Glen Innes is a 24 bed Level 3 rural hospital comprised of a 2 bay, 4 bed Emergency Department (ED). The hospital also provides medical, obstetric and day surgery services. Within Glen Innes District Hospital Emergency Department, a Local Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) provide services on Fridays only. Locum VMO’s are sourced to cover the remaining week. When Locum VMO’s are unable to be secured, Glen Innes follows the Business Continuity Plan (No VMO onsite) and sources medical advice from Armidale Referral Hospital Emergency Department in

The current Emergency Department is undergoing a $50 million dollar redevelopment which, will include a new fit-for-purpose Emergency Department will provide flexible clinical services and contemporary models of care for the Glen Innes community now and into the future. Emergency medicine services are currently provided at a role delineation level 3 and will continue to operate at this level. The Emergency department manages minor injuries, resuscitation, and stabilisation prior to transfer to higher level care. Emergency services are projected to increase slightly by 2031 (3.3%). Of these presentations, 20% are admitted. Adult activity is projected to account for 82% of total presentations by 2031. Paediatric ED presentations represent less than 20% of current activity. Presentations are managed by a ATS trained Registered Nurse. The hospital has a good relationship with the NSW Ambulance and local Paramedics who assist the Emergency Department for a clinical emergency response. Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is the first point of escalation. The Emergency Department has a camera link to retrieval services that may be accessed by other higher acuity services.

About The Role
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) – Acute & Critical Care Services will provide operational and clinical leadership across key acute service areas, with a strong focus on:
  • Enhancing clinical supervision and support for nursing teams within Critical Care and Acute specialty areas
  • Leading day-to-day operational management of designated clinical services
  • Supporting patient flow optimisation across Emergency, Inpatient and Sub-Acute services
  • Driving quality improvement initiatives, innovation and change management projects
  • Strengthening workforce capability, collaboration and succession planning across nursing leadership portfolios
  • Supporting recruitment, rostering and people management functions within a Monday to Friday leadership model
  • Building a positive team culture that encourages career development and rural nursing opportunities
  • Job Share will be highly considered for the right Candidates
The position also contributes to shared leadership capability across the health service, improving organisational resilience and supporting continuity during periods of leave or workforce transition.
About You:
This is an exciting opportunity for a contemporary nurse leader who is passionate about rural healthcare, workforce development, patient flow improvement and leading sustainable change within a supportive multidisciplinary environment
  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated experience in nursing leadership within acute, emergency, critical care or inpatient settings
  • Proven capability in people management, recruitment and rostering
  • Experience leading change management and quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong communication, collaboration and clinical leadership skills
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a Monday to Friday operational leadership roster

Essential Criteria
Relevant post graduate qualifications in clinical leadership or management.
