About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Registered Nurse with strong leadership and advanced nursing skills for the role of Sub-Tenon Clinical Specialty Nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients receiving eye surgery.

In this regional position, you will work closely with a dedicated surgical team, playing a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. Your primary responsibility will be to provide perioperative care including assessment, and care for patients undergoing eye surgery. Key to this role will be performing Sub-Tenon blocks for patients undergoing cataract surgery . This will be supported under Level 3 supervision from a Specialist Anaesthetist. This role will provide an opportunity to develop specialist skills while contributing to clinical leadership, education, and patient care coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide Perioperative assessment and care to patients undergoing eye surgery

Perform Sub-Tenon blocks with confidence and precision
Provide expert nursing care as part of a structured clinical pathway
Offer patient education and support throughout their surgical journey
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care
Deliver clinical teaching and mentorship to support staff development

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will be based at Greenlane Clinical Centre, working alongside a dedicated and highly skilled regional ophthalmology team. The role also offers the flexibility to travel to and work at other sites providing ophthalmology care across the region.

About you

Registered Nurse with a passion for advancing clinical skills
A Registered Nurse who is keen to work within a regional context (some travel and work in surrounding districts required)
Experience in an operating room or ophthalmic setting (preferred)
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work autonomously and within a senior nursing team
Commitment to patient safety, evidence-based practice, and cultural competency
NZ nursing registration with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
