Flynn is a first-generation construction company with operations across Ireland, UK and Northern Europe. We specialize in Critical Environments such as Data Centres, Life Sciences, Aviation, High Value Manufacturing and Critical Logistics.


We are currently seeking a highly motivated accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with both the Accounting and Commercial teams to ensure efficient management of project reporting and analysing financial data to identify opportunities and risks. They will also be responsible for sub-contractor management for the Group, and for all data analytics for the Commercial and Finance teams.


REPORTING TO: Group Financial Controller


Purpose of Role

As a Commercial Business Partner with Flynn, you will be responsible for analysing financial data to uncover insights, identify risks and opportunities, and support strategic decision-making.


Role Responsibilities


Project Performance:

  • Drive monthly project performance reviews and analysis to inform business decisions.
  • Identifying variances and trends across projects. Working with the commercial and finance team to implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Evaluation of the budget Cost Value Reports prepared by the commercial team responsible for the project.
  • Assisting the Commercial team, ensuring a consistent approach to the preparation of monthly and quarterly project Cost Value Reports.
  • Preparation of the monthly project Work in Progress and Accrual figures for all entities in the Group.
  • Ensuring project forecasts are updated and key project data is reviewed and accurately reported.
  • Conducting in depth audits of project reports with the commercial teams, identifying and mitigating financial risks associated with all projects and reporting findings to management.
  • Monitoring retention release dates and liaising with the commercial team in respect to scheduled settlement dates.

Data Analysis:

  • Market Analysis – identifying trends within the industry, our competitors and our projects and reporting this via company and project level dashboards.
  • Developing, building and maintenance of data analytical dashboards for the Group using Power BI or other systems / software.
  • Tender tracking – ongoing review and reporting of values being tendered for and the stage of these tenders.

Subcontractor Management:


  • Sub-contractors set up and on-boarding – ensuring all necessary documentation
  • is in place before commencement of works.
  • Lead the subcontractor payment process for the group, ensuring sufficient cash reserves are maintained on projects. Review and sign off on payment files before approval by the Group Financial Controller or CFO.
  • Ongoing management and review of subcontract compliance documentation - Review of subcontracts, subcontractor insurance and other various documentation needed for our subcontractor supply chain including international compliance documentation such as G-Account paperwork, German withholding tax certs etc.
  • Management of all Subcontractor ledgers for the Group, ensuring the ledger is kept tidy and any corrective actions are taken in a timely manner.

Other Duties:

  • Assisting the HSEQ and Purchasing departments with ESG / CSRD compliance and reporting.
  • Working with the bid teams to assist with ongoing tenders.
  • Management of our Bond facilities with our external Bond broker.
  • CSO returns – completion of CSO returns as and when needed.
  • Assistance in the insurance renewal process for the Group.

The Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. A professional certification (e.g., ACCA, ACA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a commercial financial role. Experience within the construction industry is desirable in addition to experience working cross-functionally in a commercial finance capacity.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong level of excel and experience with Power BI or other analytical tools is desirable.
