Job Description
Job Title: Community Outreach Worker
Reports To: Program Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Classification: Regular, Full-time
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
Location: Onsite, position may be assigned to work at both IHC locations
SUMMARY:
The Outreach Worker is responsible for completion of all prevention activities including outreach, collaboration, training, and education of the community. The Outreach Worker will deliver outreach services to parents, children, youth at risk and elders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The information in this job description indicates the general nature and level of work performed. 1. Promote awareness of IHC services, including 988 Tribal Crisis Response program, and focus on emphasis of promoting and maintaining community, family and individual wellness at community events, gatherings and public relations campaigns.
2. Coordinate and organize activities to increase awareness of suicide risk, identify signs of an early detection of suicide risk. Promote community wellness through the involvement in cultural and social activities known to support individual and community resilience.
3. Develop and disseminate 988 informational materials to the tribal community at all IHC physical locations including community events and at other outreach-type events. The focus of these brochures and promotional material will be to increase awareness of suicide risk, identify signs of and early detection of suicide risk and promote community wellness through cultural and social activities.
4. Provide support to individuals and families who are at risk and in need of linkages to on-going services and makes referrals to a clinician for assessment and/or treatment services.
5. Conduct workshops, presentations, public forums as necessary to get messaging out to the community.
6. Prepare monthly narratives and analytical reports.
7. Work closely with the Program Coordinator to achieve grant objectives.
8. Work closely with the Marketing Department to provide social media messaging.
9. Position may be reassigned during activation of EOP.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a social service field preferably in the mental health arena, or two (2) years of community service experience is preferred.
- Public Speaking experience required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have knowledge of American Indians and Indian values and practices.
- Must have knowledge of responsibilities involved in doing work that is highly confidential and the handling and processing of confidential information.
- Must have knowledge of the local area, in particularly the Indian reservations, for the purpose of making home visits.
- Must have a clear understanding of appropriate cultural customs within this particular community.
- Skilled in public speaking, creating presentations, and delivering information in an engaging manner.
- Ability to implement and execute community events; follow up with clients.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS
- A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Current AED CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
- Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test that includes marijuana.
- Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
- Must pass criminal background check.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Indoor office setting with occasional offsite (community based) events and activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

1. Maintain privacy of all patient, employee, and volunteer information. Access such information only on a need-to-know basis and for business purposes only.
2. Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations.
3. Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.
Indian Preference shall be given in accordance with IHC’s Policies and Procedures.
