Position Summary

Are you an experienced estimator with a sharp eye for detail and confidence to lead complex bids? AJ Glass is seeking a skilled Estimator II to take ownership of commercial glazing projects. In this role, you’ll manage full-scale bids, collaborate directly with general contractors and vendors, and play a key part in preconstruction planning and pricing consistency. You’ll also gain insight into negotiation strategies and the complexities of distinctive, high-profile projects.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare and manage detailed estimates for complex commercial projects, including multi-story scopes, specialty hardware, and breakout pricing.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with general contractors and vendors throughout the bid process.
• Send and track complete Requests for Quotation (RFQs); verify accuracy and follow up with vendors to ensure timely responses.
• Assist with bid negotiations by sharing insights and strategic recommendations with management.
• Submit Change Order Requests (CORs) independently, without management review for minor changes.
• Draft and send clear, concise Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve scope gaps or clarify missing details.
• Ensure consistency by reviewing historical pricing and aligning current proposals accordingly.
• Take ownership of unique or complex estimating tasks, such as running cost reports, verifying takeoff quantities, or reviewing project archives using tools like Google Street View, Procore, and internal databases.
• Communicate major pricing increases to general contractors (“sticker shock”) by clearly explaining scope changes prior to submitting revised proposals.

What We’re Looking For

• 2-3 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, ideally with a focus on glazing systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management is a plus, but we also highly value hands on experience.
• Strong understanding of curtainwall, storefront, thermal systems, hardware packages, and specialty materials.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, and bid documents.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, and familiarity with construction management platforms (Procore).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and eager to contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Physical Requirements

• Majority of the position is performed in an office setting, sitting or standing at a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to attend occasional site visits and scheduled site walks on active construction sites, which may involve walking or standing, limited ladder use, and normal working conditions.
• Occasional lifting of light materials (up to 25 pounds), such as plans or samples.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
