Family Support Worker

Fixed Term Full-Time Contract

Applications are invited for the position of a Fixed Term Family Support Worker for the B&B Outreach Service.

As part of the Good Shepherd Cork, the B&B Outreach Service supports families, women and children who are currently living in B&B’s, hotels, and other forms of private emergency accommodation. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

The position will be based within the B&B Outreach Service, Edel House, Grattan Street, Cork, and will involve working across a range of settings including B&B’s, emergency accommodation and other community sites. This is a full-time contract position until the 1st December 2026 (covering leave)with the possibility of extension subject to ongoing funding. The role is based on a 39 hours per week involving shift work, including evening, night, and weekend hours. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility in relation to working hours.

Essential Requirements

• A minimum Fetac Level 8 Childcare qualification, BA in Early Years & Childhood Studies, Youth Work, or equivalent qualification
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience
• A professional, caring, and empathetic approach to working with vulnerable adults, children, and families
• Experience supporting parents in promoting their child’s development and overall well-being

Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Management Team in B&B Outreach Service the successful candidate will:

• Build trusting relationships with clients and encourage engagement with the service
• Provide client-centred emotional and practical support to families in emergency accommodation
• Manage and prioritise own caseload
• Maintain accurate records of client contact
• Work collaboratively as part of a small, dynamic team
• Adhere to organisational policies, including Health & Safety and Child Protection guidelines
