The Food and Beverage Manager will coordinate and supervise all activities for the front-of-house operation, overseeing daily dining, and various special event experiences. Working with the Executive Chef, this position will serve as liaison with the kitchen staff to provide fast and courteous service to patrons. The Food and Beverage Manager will assign work tasks and coordinate activities for all front-of-the-house staff to ensure prompt, consistent, and courteous service to patrons. As an integral member of the Food & Beverage Department, this position is responsible for providing excellent customer service in keeping with Old Sturbridge Village standards and brand. This role will ensure Old Sturbridge Village’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinate oversight for opening/closing and management of multiple dining outlets throughout the campus including daily a la carte dining experience, seasonal spaces, and other locations for special events as needed.
- Inspect front-of-the-house facilities and observe staff to ensure compliance with occupational, health and safety standards.
- Provide serving skills and knowledge for special events. Train other staff to also fill that role
- Maintain a visible presence in the front-of-house of all dining locations.
- Provide highest level of customer service by addressing customer concerns and anticipating issues before they occur.
- Develop orientation and training programs for front-of-house staff on customer service and proper food service procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Schedule front-of-house work hours according to budget and attendance trends.
- Manage multiple requests for events and communicate needs to Food & Beverage staff including but not limited to Board of Trustees breakfasts, private luncheons, special Village events, and more.
- Manage the Food & Beverage Team internal calendar with information vital to providing successful communication and event planning.
- Follow established procedures for cash handling, negotiables and related records to safeguard the Village’s finances and ensure against loss.
- Active member of team to strategize new ways to increase sales, revenue and control expenses.
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task and work as a team within the division.
- Flexibility, self-motivation, positive and “can-do” attitude
- Demonstrated leadership skills to lead team.
- Knowledge of food and beverage and service industry standard
- Knowledge and experience acting in a restaurant server role.
- One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
- An outgoing and friendly personality.
- Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to communicate clearly internally as well as externally to customers.
- Ability to effectively resolve customer problems and requests.
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Ideal candidate will be ServSafe, CPR and TIPS certified (Note: Old Sturbridge Village will provide candidate with required trainings if needed)
- Basic computer skills; Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is required. Experience with NCR Aloha Cloud POS system is preferred.
Physical and Scheduling Requirements
The following tasks are essential to the role and may be performed with reasonable accommodation:
- Transporting items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Maintaining a stationary position (standing) for extended periods.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive tasks.
- Communicating effectively with team members.
- Multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities efficiently.
- Schedule:
- Must be available to work Wednesday through Sunday.
- Some holidays and evenings are required with advance notice.
- Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
Required experience:
- Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
