Gym Manager – Swan Leisure (Operational Overview)

Swan Leisure is a not-for-profit health club in Dublin 6—operated by Dublin City Sports and Leisure Services—it proudly fosters community, inclusion, creativity, teamwork, and lifelong learning through its gym, pool, group classes, sauna, steam room, sports halls, and studios

Position Summary

As Gym Manager, you will oversee day to day operations at Swan Leisure—including the gym, studios, group fitness, and supporting areas. Your role balances leadership, safety, member experience, and continuous improvement, within the club’s community-driven ethos.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership & Facility Management

  • Oversee daily operations: ensure cleanliness, safety, member satisfaction, and efficient equipment use.
  • Manage staff scheduling for peak and quiet times, ensuring adequate coverage across gym, studios, and fitness classes.
  • Liaise with maintenance and hygiene teams to ensure smooth operations:
  • Supervise cleaning schedules, consumables, and stock levels.
  • Coordinate with contractors on preventative equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Conduct incident reporting and investigate accidents or hazards promptly

2. Health & Safety Oversight

  • Maintain a culture of safety through regular risk assessments, fire drills, and evacuation procedures
  • Ensure all staff are trained in first aid, AED use, and health & safety protocols; organize refresher training as needed
  • Collaborate with the Disability Liaison Officer to support accessibility standards and inclusive programs

3. Team Development & Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and appraise gym team
  • Foster a supportive and engaged team environment that aligns with Swan Leisure’s values of inclusivity, creativity, community, and learning.
  • Encourage staff professional development, facilitate training, and support accreditation processes.

4. Member Experience & Community Engagement

  • Elevate customer service by personally guiding the fitness experience and responding proactively to complaints.
  • Introduce new initiatives to enrich membership benefits, member retention, and community connections
  • Work with marketing or community teams to coordinate events, classes, and promotions reflecting club values.

5. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Compile regular operational reports—covering attendance, incidents, equipment issues, and improvement recommendations.
  • Participate in projects and initiatives directed by senior management to enhance facility performance

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven management experience in the health, leisure, or fitness sector.
  • Strong understanding of facility operations, health & safety, and staff coordination.
  • Excellent people skills and leadership mindset.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and deliver a high-quality member experience.
  • Training or certifications in fitness instruction, first aid, or health & safety (preferable).

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: €35,000.00-€47,000.00 per year
