Highland Plastics runs a 5-day, 24-hour operation and is recruiting for our day shift, 8am to 4pm. This is a full-time position. We primarily make sheets and rolls of plastic for the automotive industry, who then form it into car parts. New hires will join on at a starting wage of $23/hr. Highland Plastics provides all necessary training for this position. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will primarily be focused on the preventative maintenance of our plant infrastructure and production equipment, although you will also be expected to make repairs to address any unplanned downtime.

This is a day shift position with off-shift downtime repair handled by others. In the event of an emergency, you would be expected to come in on the off shifts if the team needed you. On rare occasions you may be asked to work a weekend or a holiday if a maintenance task requires the plant to be non-operational. Such is the nature of working in plant maintenance.

Essential skills and experience:

Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic are essential. We would rather train someone with a great attitude than hire someone with more experience who is lazy or hard to get along with. Preventative maintenance is the bedrock of a successful manufacturing operation, and the integrity of the maintenance techs who perform it is the key factor in whether preventative maintenance is effective. You will be working solo most of the time and need to hold yourself to a high standard and take pride in your work.

You will need the digital skills to use our CMMS program to access your work orders and report on your completed work. You will also be expected to use the Slack app to respond to your colleagues about any equipment issues that arise and remain informed about plant activities.

You will be expected to use a fork truck and scissor lift safely.

In terms of maintenance skills, you will need to be proficient in maintaining hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Some basic electrical skills will be essential in order to energize and de-energize equipment safely. Welding experience is preferred but not required. Our production equipment is very industry-specific in its configuration but when you break it down it is really just a collection of motors, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, and electrical control panels.
