We are looking for a medical office assistant for a solo-doctor, family medicine practice.
Working hours are: Monday to Thursday 9 am to 5pm/Friday 9am-4pm; lunch break 12pm-1pm.
The holder of this position is expected to :
- Attend to various administrative jobs as needed to keep a smoothly running practice
- Build a rapport with patients and project a positive, calm and friendly image to patients and visitors in person and via the telephone
- Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the practice team and other associated healthcare practitioner and agencies
- Report to the physician in charge and ensure information is shared between practitioner and staff
- Be well organized, efficient and able to prioritize tasks
- Able to speak and write English clearly
- Can work independently and is reliable, but asks for direction when in doubt
Job Responsibilities:
- Have templates entered into chart for patient encounter in advance; able to enter information into template as necessary
- Able to liaise with Telus, Bell and other 3rd party agencies when needed to keep practice running smoothly
- Basic medical assistant skills needed: suture removal, urine dip, assist in minor procedures periodically and experience in intramuscular injections is an asset
- Keeping the treatment data for patients who are on treatment up to date (i.e. entering immunizations into EMR)
- Scheduling of patient appointments as necessary
- Working in Extended Hours Clinic (5pm-8pm) when necessary
- Liaising with specialist offices about patient’s appointment as required
- Recording of incoming and outgoing insurance reports/WSIB forms and monitoring that payment is received
- Managing the stock levels of stationary and practice supplies including vaccines
- Entering of test results/consult reports as needed
- Arranging/preparing requisitions for follow up imaging and testing
- Setting up exam rooms for procedures/paps/physicals and prepping patient before exam (eg. blood pressure, weigh/height etc.)
- Sterilization of used medical equipment and exam room between patients
- Making telephone contacts with patients who require appointments and results
- Managing incoming and outgoing mail
- Know how to do IM injection or willing to take a class to learn how

Desired work experience, Education and skills
Prior experience of working within a healthcare setting
Preferred previous experience in family doctor's office
Experience in the use of PS Suite EMR
Basic computer skill: use of Word , Excel, Adobe
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 34 per week
