ARBI is a nonprofit community-based rehabilitation centre providing neurorehabilitation and family support for survivors of moderate-severe acquired brain injury. For nearly 50 years, ARBI has been recognized as a pioneer in community-based brain injury rehabilitation using a combination of professional staff and trained volunteers. Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Occupational Therapist plays a key role in supporting adults living with acquired brain injury and stroke through community-based rehabilitation services. This position is responsible for assessing client needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-informed interventions that promote independence, participation, and quality of life.

Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist contributes to meaningful client outcomes by helping individuals build functional skills, navigate daily activities, and achieve personal rehabilitation goals within their home and community environments. This role also supports client and caregiver education, collaborative care planning, and ongoing program development aligned with ARBI’s mission and values.

The successful candidate will contribute to a client-centered rehabilitation approach by fostering therapeutic relationships, advocating for client needs, and supporting innovative community-based programming for brain injury and stroke survivors.

This is a 1-year fixed term contract with a possibility of extension based on funding.

Key responsibility areas:

  • Clinical Assessment & Rehabilitation Planning – 30%
  • Conduct client-centered functional assessments, including standardized testing aligned with organizational protocols
  • Develop individualized, goal-oriented rehabilitation plans for clients recovering from stroke and brain injury
  • Provide occupational therapy interventions that support functional independence and community participation
  • Direct Client Care & Program Delivery – 30%
  • Deliver one-to-one and group-based rehabilitation sessions in clinic and community settings
  • Design and implement structured rehabilitation programs for clients and support personnel
  • Adapt treatment approaches based on client progress, goals, and changing needs
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Education & Community Engagement – 30%
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver holistic, person-centered rehabilitation services.
  • Liaise with families, caregivers, and external service providers to support client progress, continuity of care, and successful community reintegration.
  • Participate in client reviews, case conferences, and collaborative care planning discussions to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise volunteers, practicum students, caregivers, and other support personnel, while contributing to community education, advocacy, and professional development initiatives related to brain injury and stroke rehabilitation.
  • Documentation & Monitoring – 10%
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, attendance records, and progress tracking
  • Monitor client participation and outcomes to support effective service delivery
  • Prepare timely reports, updates, and recommendations to support client care and program planning

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with individuals with neurological conditions, acquired brain injury, stroke, or related rehabilitation settings
  • Demonstrated experience in cognitive rehabilitation, functional assessment, and client-centered goal setting
  • Strong clinical reasoning, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Familiarity with assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and electronic documentation systems is considered an asset
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation may be required
