About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to lead our jewellery, art, and Irish craft store located in the heart of Sligo.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining creative retail management with strong operational oversight across both our physical shop and online store. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the business, team leadership, customer experience, and driving sales growth in line with key performance indicators.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about independent retail, Irish craft, and creating a warm, engaging customer experience.

About Us

The Cat and the Moon is an independent craft and jewellery retailer founded by Irish jewellery designer Martina Hamilton in 1989. Rooted in creativity and storytelling, we specialise in showcasing Irish jewellery, art, and hand-crafted design in a warm, thoughtfully curated retail environment.

As part of our next phase of growth, we are currently developing a new Shopify e-commerce platform for The Cat and the Moon, expanding our national and international reach and strengthening our online sales presence alongside our physical store.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Leading, training, mentoring, and supervising staff
• Recruitment and on-boarding of new team members
• Staff roster and performance management
• Creating a positive, professional, and supportive work environment

Retail Operations

• Day-to-day management of store operations
• Stock control, inventory planning, and supplier coordination
• Cash handling, reporting, and opening/closing procedures
• Ensuring health, safety, and retail compliance standards
• Protecting confidential financial and customer information

Sales & Business Performance

• Driving in-store and online sales growth
• Working to KPIs and sales targets
• Identifying opportunities to improve performance and efficiency

Visual Merchandising & Brand Presentation

• Curating in-store displays and window merchandising
• Maintaining brand standards across the shop and online store
• Supporting product photography and online listings

Customer Experience & Community

• Delivering exceptional customer service
• Handling customer queries and feedback with care
• Building strong customer relationships and loyalty
• Engaging with the local creative and business community

Business Development

• Identifying opportunities to grow the business across in-store and online channels
• Contributing ideas to improve sales performance, systems, and customer engagement
• Strengthening relationships with artisans, suppliers, and the wider creative community

About You

• Proven experience in a retail management or senior supervisory role
• Strong leadership and people-management skills
• Commercially minded, with experience working to KPIs
• Organised, reliable, and confident in decision-making
• A passion for independent retail, Irish craft, and creativity

Salary & Benefits

• €38,000 – €40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
• Full-time role: 39 hours per week, worked over 5 days Monday–Saturday
