Position: Steel Estimator (Estimator & Project Support)

Location: Meath, Navan

Reports to: Managing Director

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

You’ll prepare accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel, secondary steelwork, cladding, and fabrication/erection projects, while also actively supporting ongoing project management after tender stage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications for accurate cost estimation.
  • Quantify materials, labour, and subcontractor elements for steel fabrication and erection.
  • Develop detailed BOQs, take-offs, and pricing schedules.
  • Source and assess supplier/subcontractor quotations.
  • Prepare tender clarifications, queries, and partake in post-tender negotiations.
  • Coordinate handover to project delivery teams and support project execution.
  • Assist project managers with cost control, monitoring progress, and managing variations.
  • Contribute to project planning and scheduling as needed.
  • Keep cost databases updated; track market trends, material prices, and project risks.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Key Skills & Experience

  • 3–5 years’ estimating experience in structural or secondary steelwork or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, erection methods, and associated costs.
  • Proficiency in interpreting structural drawings and BIM/IFC models.
  • Proven ability to support live project delivery—especially cost control and subcontractor coordination.
  • Exceptional numeracy, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Skilled in MS Excel; experience with Tekla, StruM.I.S, or similar estimating tools is a plus.
  • Commercially savvy with determination to achieve competitive supplier negotiations.
  • Capable of multitasking across multiple tenders and project stages.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Engineering, or similar (desirable but not essential with strong experience).
  • Safe Pass and health & safety awareness (preferred but can be arranged).

Salary

Depending on experience and responsibilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: €50,000.00-€55,000.00 per year
