As MUJI continues to expand its business’ in Australia which includes new store openings and upcoming flagship developments, we are seeking a talented Store Development Manager to play a central role in our growth journey. This is a great opportunity for a design minded, commercially savvy project leader who wants to influence and create meaningful impact at a national scale. Our design ethos is grounded in simplicity, functionality, sustainability and calm and inviting spaces that serves our communities, and you will play a major role in shaping this environment for our customers!

This role will be based in Melbourne Head Office and reporting directly to the Managing Director. The Store Development Manager will be responsible for leading projects, end-to-end planning, designing and delivery of MUJI stores including:

  • New site opportunities and store openings
  • Store refurbishment and relocations
  • Layouts and refresh projects while ensuring store designs reflect MUJIs ethos and brand identity
Key responsibilities include:
  • Partnering with the business to lead full project lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain store design standards ensuring alignment with MUJI's minimalist aesthetic and global guidelines
  • Oversee and manage project budgets, timelines, delivery standards, compliance with Australian building codes and WHS standards
  • Review design concepts to ensure efficiency, sustainability and commercially viable solutions
  • Manage relationships with architects, designers, builders, contractors, and consultants

Skills and Experiences:
  • Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in retail property development, store design, or project management.
  • A hands-on leader with exceptional communication skills, committed to effective cross-functional collaboration and driving company growth and expansion.
  • Ability to remain resilient in the face of challenges, problem-solve complex issues, and quickly adjust expansion strategies to meet business challenges.
  • Proven ability to manage complex project budgets, pricing, and deliver maximum return on investment (ROI).
  • Ability to develop and maintain critical business relationships with landlords, external property groups, and diverse commercial stakeholders
  • Ability to assess risks for new business opportunities, develop proactive contingency plans, and evaluate potential organisational impact
  • Highly organised and effective in project administration, planning, and securing opportunities through quality proposals.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislations for lease agreements across various Australian jurisdictions is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana) is highly desirable.
