Tailor Your Resume for this Job

As a Shelter Veterinarian, you will be the clinical lead responsible for the health and well-being of animals within our care. This role balances high-volume surgical tasks with herd health management and individual patient diagnostics in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Care & Diagnostics: Perform physical exams, diagnose illnesses, and develop treatment plans for a diverse population of shelter animals.
  • High-Volume Surgery: Conduct routine spay/neuter procedures and necessary soft-tissue surgeries (e.g., mass removals, enucleations, or dental extractions).
  • Herd Health Management: Implement protocols for infectious disease control, sanitation, and preventative medicine (vaccinations/parasite control).
  • Forensic & Legal Support: Provide medical evaluations for animal cruelty investigations and testify as an expert witness when required.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians and assistants to ensure a high standard of medical practice.

Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited university.
  • Licensure: Active veterinary license in the state of practice and a valid DEA registration.
  • Skills: Proficiency in high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter (HQHVSN) and a strong understanding of shelter medicine principles.
  • Attributes: Compassion, ability to make sound decisions under pressure, and a commitment to animal welfare.

Why Join Us?

This position offers the unique opportunity to make a direct impact on animal lives and community public health. We provide a collaborative environment focused on "saving lives" rather than just "managing cases."

Note: This role often requires flexible scheduling, including occasional weekends or on-call emergency rotations.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance

  • Professional development assistance
  • Relocation assistance
