Based in the vibrant coastal town of Oamaru, our core business is bringing electricity from the national grid to over 13,000 connected customers in North Otago and parts of South Canterbury. Network Waitaki provide innovative energy solutions to our customers, as well as providing electrical construction and maintenance services across New Zealand.

We’re looking for a Commercial Manager who will be instrumental in driving Network Waitaki’s commercial success by developing and implementing commercial strategies that drive profitability, improve procurement processes, and support the success of our network and contracting operations.

About the Role:

As Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in strengthening our commercial performance and driving operational efficiency. Reporting to the CFO, you will:

  • Work with managers to implement commercial strategies and develop new business opportunities.
  • Provide key input into pricing strategies for commercial contracts and network activities.
  • Play a key role in optimising procurement processes and inventory management across the business.
  • Support contract negotiations and successful delivery of contract outputs ensuring effective management of risk and legal obligations.
  • Analyse market trends, financial data, and business risks to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate across departments to resolve commercial and contractual matters.
  • Manage insurance cover and renewals and support enterprise risk management.

What You’ll Bring:

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in commercial management, pricing, and contractual roles.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage complex commercial agreements.
  • Financial acumen and data analysis capabilities.
  • Experience in risk management, legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience overseeing procurement activities and effective supplier/stakeholder management.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the energy or electricity distribution sector.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for pricing and infrastructure investment.
