Human Resources Business Partner
Open To: Open Competition - Existing
Job Location: Catholic Education Centre, 46 Alliance Boulevard, Barrie, Ontario
Position Type / Hours: Full-time Permanent: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35.0 hours weekly, plus overtime as required
Annual Salary Range: $78,203 to $98,069
This exciting role provides front-line Human Resources service and support for designated client groups. The Human Resources (HR) Business Partner is responsible for leading the implementation and administration of policies and programs, for assigned client group(s), in the areas of recruitment, staffing, labour relations/negotiations, professional development days, attendance management and employee relations, ensuring the optimal provision of end-to-end human resource services enabling the achievement of Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board’s vision and mission.
Specific deliverables for the role include:
- Consulting with and providing support to school leaders, senior leaders, department managers and employees. Building productive working relationships with coworkers, school leaders, managers, union representatives and employees by following through on commitments and communicating appropriate information in a timely, accurate and inclusive manner.
- Providing guidance, functional advice, coaching and support with respect to human resources issues, programs and projects.
- Completing staffing processes in an accurate and timely fashion to ensure that employees in assigned client groups are distributed across the district in a way that optimizes program delivery to students.
- Acting as a first-line liaison with union representatives on labour relations matters with client groups.
- Providing subject matter expertise with regard to collective agreement interpretation, grievance administration, dispute resolution and employee matters, including successful management of potential financial and legal implications.
- Assisting with workplace investigations, as required.
- Designing, developing and executing Human Resources programs and projects.
- Actively seeking and deploying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Human Resources services across SMCDSB.
- Building productive working relationships with coworkers, school leaders, managers, union representatives and employees by following through on commitments and communicating appropriate information in a timely, accurate and inclusive manner.
- Executing all duties and responsibilities in a manner that actively supports SMCDSB’s mission, vision, strategic priorities and Catholic values.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experiences to the role:
- All applicants must possess a minimum of a university degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field, with 3 - 5 years of previous related work experience as a Human Resources professional in a unionized environment. Previous Human Resources experience in a public sector organization and/or experience in a K-12 education environment is strongly preferred.
- A commitment to continuous learning and personal development, as evidenced by registration as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or equivalent.
- The successful candidate will have proven employee and labour relations skills, including management of sensitive employee situations, leading to successful results that support organizational goals and values. The incumbent will be able to balance and deliver on multiple priorities, conflicting deadlines and program initiatives. Working knowledge of labour/employment law is required to provide information and support with respect to contractual obligations and legislative compliance.
- The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal and conflict management skills, combined with superb written and oral communication skills. The incumbent must possess enhanced and well- practiced computer skills.
- Finally, the ideal candidate will possess proven research and analytical skills, with specific reference to matters of collective agreement administration and legislative compliance. This includes the ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information, maintaining employee privacy and setting a standard for privacy in the workplace.
- The ability to provide reliable transportation across the school district
