FUNCTION:
- Manage a team of front-line child welfare workers.
- Assist in the hiring, promoting, transferring, and termination of employees as required.
- Provide timely and effective orientation for new staff in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify systemic barriers to equity and anti-oppressive practices and apply this lens to your work
- Establish and maintain supervision meetings with staff in accordance with Ministry guidelines.
- Improve employee performance by coaching, developing, and providing feedback in a supervision setting or in a performance appraisal.
- Conduct regular team meetings for the purpose of sharing information and encouraging open communication with staff, developing team goals, and providing a forum for sharing clinical expertise.
- Address internal and external complaints regarding employees in a timely fashion and implement corrective action when required.
- Understand and apply the Agency’s collective agreement and all applicable employment legislation as well as exercise due diligence regarding compliance with all policies, procedures and legislation related to health and safety.
- Engage and participate in internal projects promoting the organization’s service philosophy.
- Aim to champion a personal, professional, and organizational movement to better understand and address the systemic oppression impacting infants, children, youth, and families that receive services from our organization.
- Demonstrates knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis history, people and communities and a demonstrated ability to engage with the communities
- Demonstrate knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history and current issues/oppression experienced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis; those of African-Canadian/Black heritage; and other racially marginalized persons in our community
- Actively engage in close partnerships with allied community agencies, such as our sister indigenous agency, who have a shared role in service to children and families.
- Maintain good working relations with community, regional, and provincial associates of the Agency.
- Represent the Agency on external working committees, and in public or professional presentations as required.
- Participate on community committees/events or boards as a representative of the agency.
- Play an active role in community events promoting the organization.
- Proven ability to deeply understand First Nations, Inuit and Métis culture, heritage and traditions, and a commitment to developing the highest quality culturally appropriate service possible for the First Nations, Inuit and Métis families that we serve
- Disseminate knowledge of all policies, procedures, standards, and directives and ensures reporting requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain accountability mechanisms to ensure that client service goals are being met.
- Ensure that timelines established for both service and administrative requirements are compliant.
- Facilitate the resolution of client complaints.
- Accountable for individual and team performance to a Service Manager.
- Act as a communication link between front line personnel and senior management.
- Participate in planning at the unit, service, and agency levels.
- Promote the integration of quality assurance perspectives and practices in all unit and agency activities.
- Contribute to the ongoing review of the effectiveness of agency programs, and to the adaptation of those programs to meet changing client and community needs.
- Link the activities of the unit with the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
- Notify Service Manager about issues of a contentious or sensitive nature on a timely basis.
- BSW or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the human services field.
- Preference will be given to those who identify as First Nations, Inuit and Métis; African-Canadian/Black heritage; or other racially marginalized persons who meet the educational requirements or who have equivalent education and experience.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is required.
- 3-5 years of management experience in the human services field would be preferable.
- Strong communicator, team player, leader, innovative, flexible, creative, transparent, and organized.
