Job Overview
This is a part-time job starting around 10+ hours per week. Mostly weekend shifts, with the occasional evening weekday shift. Additional hours will likely be available in the summer. Good position for a student.
We’re looking for a reliable and skilled Line Cook to join our kitchen team. The right candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, shows up on time every shift, and maintains a positive attitude - speaking respectfully to co-workers and management. We're a small team, only one Line Cook works in the kitchen at a time, along with a Prep Cook for support. You must be ready and able to follow the posted instructions and cook to order from day one, with supervision and guidance for the first few shifts while you're learning.
Pay starts at $17 an hour plus equally shared gratuities between FOH and BOH. We also have a comprehensive benefits package including drug coverage, dental, life insurance, massage therapy, physiotherapy, mental health counselling, and more.
NOTE: Must be available weekends. Shifts may run later some days, or extra coverage may be needed. All staff are expected to help the team by covering sick days or vacation days for each other when needed.
Duties
- Memorize recipes, procedures, and standard portion sizes.
- Set up and stock the line with food ingredients, utensils, and other necessary supplies.
- Accurately produce food and drink to-order in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure food orders are prepared and timed correctly, and with urgency.
- Prepare sauces and ingredients for recipes, by chopping, shredding, weighing and blending.
- Package and label meals and products for the retail market.
- Prepare catering orders by following recipes and instructions.
- Take direction from supervisors, work well independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to speak, write and easily understand English.
- Perform inventory checks and order fresh produce.
- Always follow food safety guidelines when handling, preparing, or storing food.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including completion of tasks from the cleaning list.
- Rinse dishes and use a commercial dishwashing machine (during times when the dishwasher is not on shift).
- Complete any other relevant tasks that may arise, as needed.
Experience
- One year previous experience working as a line cook is required.
- Familiarity with cooking techniques, food preparation methods, and kitchen equipment is essential.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations is required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team is expected.
- A valid Safe Food Handler certificate is required. (If you don't have one, it must be acquired within 30 days of start date and can be completed online)
